Net Metering

Virginia allows "net metering" of excess electricity generated from renewable energy systems. Net metering allows customers to receive the full retail value for their excess electricity at times when their system is producing more electricity than the building is consuming. The limits that can be net metered are 10 kilowatts for residential systems and 500 kilowatts for non-residential installations. The Virginia State Corporation Commission recently revised the regulations for net metering. Click here for a copy of the most recent regulations.
