Transportation

Transportation is the single largest energy-user; accounting for approximately 43% of the total energy used within the Commonwealth. As a result of the high demand, the VA Energy Plan proposes three paths to reduce the energy impact from transportation

Virginia Biodiesel Environmental Compliance Primer - Virginia Department of Environmental Quality aims to acquaint the reader with the environmental regulatory obligations concerning biodiesel fuel production.

Clean Cities - a government-industry partnership designed to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector by advancing the use of alternative fuels and vehicles, idle reduction technologies, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel blends, and fuel economy.

Incentives on high-efficiency/alternative fuel vehicles – Some federal incentives may still be in effect depending on the make and model of the vehicle and the manufacturer phase out period.

Alternative Fueling Station Locator - Search the fueling station database to find stations offering compressed natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, E85, electricity, biodiesel, hydrogen, and liquefied natural gas.

Fuel Economy – A website dedicated to providing consumers with reliable information about a vehicle’s efficiency performance standards.

Hydrogen Program – A DOE-funded project working in conjunction with various partnerships to research and evaluate hydrogen technology.
