Topographic Maps
Topographic maps use contour lines (lines of equal elevation) to show the shape and elevation of the land. Topographic map features commonly include mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, plains, vegetation, roads, railroads, political boundaries, and buildings.
The Division of Geology and Mineral Resources stocks a variety of scales of topographic maps covering Virginia. The most detailed of these are the 7.5-minute topographic maps with woodland coverage. The scale of these maps is 1:24,000 or 1 inch = 2,000 feet, and each map is approximately 20 inches by 27 inches.
These topographic maps are available for purchase through DMME's Web Store.
