Abandoned Mine Land Pilot Funding Program for Economic Development
The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) was one of the states chosen to receive $10 million to develop Abandoned Mine Land (AML) sites. The grant comes from the Power Plus Pilot Program which was part of the federal Omnibus Funding Bill passed in May 2018. Projects completed with the funds will not only be designed to boost the economy of southwest Virginia’s coalfields but will also improve the environment.
Below is the form and information needed for anyone interested in proposing an economic development project to the Advisory Group for review and advancement for Office of Surface Mining approval. Projects must meet the Office of Surface Mining’s Project Guidance. The deadline for submittal is October 31, 2018. Completed proposals should be mailed to Tarah.Kesterson@dmme.virginia.gov. The Office of Surface Mining has indicated an update may be pending. Proposers should check back or send notice to the email above in order to receive any future updates.
